Issuu pricing, honestly: what you pay and what else is out there
3 min read
Issuu is the name most people reach for when they search for an online magazine platform. It's well known, it's been around a long time and it has a public directory where readers can find publications.
Whether it's the right fit depends on what you want it to do.
What Issuu is built for
Issuu is a public publishing platform. Your magazine lives on Issuu, sits in Issuu's directory and can be recommended to people browsing. For independent creators who want to find new readers, that's a benefit.
For an association, the picture is different. Your readers are your members. You usually don't need strangers browsing alongside other publishers' content, and you may want the reading experience to carry your branding, not the platform's.
What it costs
At the time of writing, our own comparison page lists Issuu's starter plan at $31 a month, or $19 a month billed annually, and its Unlimited plan, which includes the ad-free, unbranded experience, at $269 a month, or $188 a month billed annually. Those figures were checked in October 2026 and may have changed, so confirm them at issuu.com/pricing. We keep the latest we have on our Zeenly vs Issuu page.
Things to compare, whichever platform you look at:
- Which plan removes the platform's branding and ads.
- How many team members are included, and at what price.
- What analytics you get, and how far back the history goes.
- Whether you can embed the magazine on your own website.
- Whether pricing is monthly, annual or a one-off.
What to look for in an alternative
For associations and B2B publishers, these matter most:
- Your branding. Your logo and your colours, with the platform's name out of the way.
- Sponsor-ready analytics. Reads, link clicks and a report you can send to an advertiser.
- Team access. More than one person should be able to publish.
- Embedding. The magazine should sit on your own site, not only on someone else's.
- Predictable cost. No surprises when you add a team member or an issue.
- Easy migration. You should be able to move your back issues.
Other options
There are several platforms in this space, including Flipsnack, Yumpu and Heyzine, among others. They differ on price, features and how much control you get. Run each through the list above and try a free account or trial before you commit.
How Zeenly compares
We built Zeenly for associations and B2B publishers who want a branded reader on their own site. We're obviously not neutral, so read the comparison with that in mind. The short version: choose Issuu if you're an independent creator after its audience. Choose Zeenly if you want a clean, branded reader, analytics for sponsors and a predictable price. See the full comparison.
A sensible way to decide
Pick two platforms. Upload the same PDF to both. Put each on a phone and a laptop, add one link and one video, and look at the analytics. An hour's testing tells you more than any feature table.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Issuu cost?
Issuu publishes its prices on its pricing page, with monthly and annual options. Prices change, so check the page directly rather than relying on a third-party article.
Is Issuu good for associations?
It works well if you want public discovery. Many associations prefer a private, branded reader on their own site, which can be a different fit.
What should I look for in an alternative?
Branding control, analytics you can show sponsors, team access, embedding on your own site and pricing you can predict.
Can I move my back catalogue?
Usually yes, since you still have the PDFs. Some platforms migrate them for you.
